Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide: Day 1
I just found the coolest tween gift ever for the holiday season, something that is the perfect gift for that kid on your list that has everything. Well, everything but their very own jellyfish, that is.
What parent doesn’t want their kid to have their own jellyfish? What… no takers? What about if I told you that these jellyfish don’t sting, don’t need to be fed, and are mess-free? Admit it, you want to own jellyfish now, don’t you?

First on my list of must-have items is the Jellyfish Lampquarium from the National History Museum. The idea behind it is similar to the lava lamps we used to love as kids, but oh, so much cooler. They both may have inter-changing colored lights but instead of bubbling liquids, the Jellyfish Lampquarium has three silicon jellyfish that glide and dart around the sealed lampquarium.
Surprisingly life-like in a hypnotic way, and incredibly fun to watch, the jellyfish “swim” around the tank illuminated by the changing colors. While they are technically marketed towards children, they really are cool no matter what your age. For those of you who are shaking their heads wondering why a grown woman is so excited about fake jellyfish, you really must see to believe.
Even though they are made of silicon it’s easy to pretend they are real live pets. Pets that require zero care and upkeep and can fit in the tiniest of rooms, apartments, or even in your office to add a little life to your workspace. They are fun to watch and amazingly relaxing, making them great nightlights, mood lights, or perfect as an accent piece.
Beside being super cool, they are also super easy to set up. Simply fill the Lampquarium to the top with plain tap water, add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to the water and place the Jellyfish into the Lampquarium. Then, sit back and watch the Jellyfish gracefully dance around the tank for up to four hours before it will automatically turn itself off.
