Are you familiar with the show The Backyardigans? You most certainly are if you know my adorable niece and nephew, or if you watch Nick Jr. more than you watch programs geared towards adults like I do. We really limit our daughter’s TV time, so there are very few shows she gets to watch, but I always make an exception when The Backyardigans are on.
The Backyardigans is show about 5 neighbors who meet in their adjoining backyards and use their imaginations to create all sorts of wild adventures, all without leaving the safety of their own back yards. The Emmy Award-winning show is only a half hour, but they manage to pack in a whole lot of adventure into that time, as well as some original songs and dances that usually prompt a dance party or two right in the middle of my living room.
As well as being catchy and cute, The Backyardigans is great because it teaches kids that you really are never bored if you’ve got an active imagination. Unfortunately for us, The Backyardigans falls squarely during my little one’s naptime, which means that it is the rare day that we catch it live on TV. So, when I heard that The Backyardigans was releasing a video with four new to DVD episodes, I was really excited to have some new shows we could watch whenever we wanted.
The Backyardigans: Operation Elephant Drop DVD is 95 minutes and will be released on July 13th, 2010. The DVD contains the following Backyardigans episodes:
Elephant on the Run – the gang needs to get an endangered Indian elephant safely to the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary without letting anyone thwart their plan. This episode is the current favorite in our house, which is mostly attributed to the adorable elephant Tasha and the gang are rescuing.
The Magic Skateboard – the Show-Off Showdown is approaching and Tyrone wants to compete. When he finds the magic skateboard that allows him to do tricks he could never do before, he is sure he will win the Showdown. But will he?
The Flipper! – It’s got space talk, “toxic space stuff”, and the super strong and super crazy Flipper that all make for another exciting episode. Oh, and an earth-bound meteor, too.
Super Team Awesome! – On the brink of a geothermal disaster, Tyrone calls for help and three superheroes come to save the day.
The Backyardigans: Operation Elephant Drop Fast Facts: Created by Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment, The Backyardigans: Operation Elephant Drop DVD hits shelves July 13, 2010, for the suggested retail price of $16.99.
